The Cityscapes
The Cityscapes project explores contemporary book design, print and the ability of books to cross boundaries from object d’art to everyday utilitarian tools. The projects is focused around a hand-bound, letterpress printed book of imaginary landscapes accompanied by a poetic narrative exploring themes of materiality and belonging.
Sacic moved to the United States as a teenager. She continues to keep in close contact with family using increasingly modern technology. The images of landscapes in this book juxtapose buildings from Croatia with those in Illinois. These drawings are inspired by her connections to home and family.
Written, designed, printed, and bound by the artist in an edition of 50 during an artist residency at the Center for Book and Paper Arts Columbia, College Chicago.
The book is accompanied by a free app that translates some qualities of the book into a digital format. App release was supported by the Northeastern Illinois University Research Stipend. App is available for free download at the Apple store.
